So it’s the day after and phew! That was one interesting experiment in twenty-first century wombling…
Here’s a photo of Tobermory helping me sand down a beautiful door rescued from a skip:

And a chair fixed up with new legs from wood found in another skip, done by the awesome Ryan Frank:

We would like to thank Stephen Hammond, MP for Wimbledon, David Simpson, Minister for the Environment at Merton Council and Sharon from Wimbledon College for drawing the raffle tickets… congratulations to everyone who won!

Say hello to Tobermory (NOT the capital of the Isle of Mull), the talented Womble engineer!
Tobermory is a skilled inventor, so you’d be right to think that his practical reuse know-how and Macgyver like ability to make creative reuse of the things that he finds are exactly the kind of qualities we need for The Big Womble.
Tobermory will be with us all day, so come and say hi and remember to bring something for him to fix!

Nritu has no memories of the Wombles as she is from Hyderabad in India. However she’s loving them now!
Check her out in her Womble badge…

Walking home tonight - with all the fantastic stuff the New Malden B&Q have offered for the Big Womble - there outside my flat was a bookcase, a pine desk and a whole lot of potential wombling beauty.
It’s a sign!
You too could find potential around
the corner… let’s get wombling

With the Big Womble kicking off this coming Friday 20th February, we’d love to see some of the furniture you’ve found on Freecycle or bought second hand, hand me downs and found objects.
To make it really easy for you to share your images (or video posts if you’d prefer) we made a moblog for everyone to add their posts to, and adding to it is really simple (you don’t need to be a member to post to the site), just get your picture or video and:
Email it to big_womble (at) moblog (dot) net
MMS it from your phone to: 07786201241 with the word wmbl at the start of your message
And your post will arrive on the moblog instantly.
If you haven’t already, remember to Sign up for The Big Womble to be kept up to date with all the bits and pieces that we’re up to.

What a find, a mirror table I found outside my flat

When a Womble went a-wombling, s/he was always reminded to take their Tidy bag with them to make sure they could carry all the things that they found. What a fantastic idea! But instead of buying one of those new reusable carrier bags from M&S or Sainsbury’s, why not make one from something you’ve got lying around at home - a t-shirt!
Old black t-shirt + scissors + needle + thread = Tidy Bag!
This was from a really simple pattern I found in a craft book called Tease. For the Big Womble we’ve gotten a bunch of shirts, needles, thread, and fabric scraps so you can make all your crafting dreams come true. It’s so easy to make - kids will enjoy it just as much as adults.

Here’s my Tidy Bag holding a fraction of my yarn - and I have A LOT of yarn.

Hey there wombles!
We have been flyering at today’s Farmers’ Market to spread the word among the local community about the event.
If you are a Wombledonian, look out for our colourful purple posters, soon to be strewn around the town…

It’s getting exciting at Womble central.
(ooh, was there a name for the house that the Wombles lived in? Prize for the first to answer)
7 days to go… we have to sweep the floors, gather the sandpaper, spread the word and pick up the Womble costume. Yes, we have a Womble available for the day!
News from the Big Womble event in Glasgow is a competition: If Glasgow had its own Womble, what would it be called? Starter Packs Glasgow are running this and their work is awesome, go check them out.

My name is Hannah and I’m the Coordinator of Big Womble: London.
My memories of the Wombles are a blur of still images and movement. Like the morning after a dream I know that I watched the wombles, but I don’t remember what they said!
My favourite thing about the Wombles was the house, which seemed to be made up of lots of different things in the background. I liked their cosy sense of style.
