Vision
Making reuse of the things that we find
Call to Action
- This event invites people to become Wombles for the twenty-first century
- We are engaging people from across London and the local community to look out for things that have been discarded and invite them to collect and bring these items to be reused
- Using an empty stage, leading UK designers will be on hand to create a living space with our Wombles’ offerings
- Helping to reuse and refurbish these items will be craftsmen, artisans and willing volunteers
Events and workshops
Living Space Installation
The empty stage at Wimbledon College will be the main focus, with a time lapse video shot as the stage fills up – this will be where our Wombles’ offerings take shape and are brought together to recreate a refurbished home. At the end these refurbished items will be taken by local furniture reuse organisations for resale.
Workshop Space
Dotted around the auditorium space will be facilities to sand down, repair and even paint the Wombles’ offerings in order to show how easy and how attractive reuse can be; also a chance to make tidy bags out of reuse t-shirts.
Wombling Reflections
A fixed vox pop camera in the corner of the auditorium streaming live will invite Wombles to tell us what they found and their reflections on being a twenty-first century Womble.
Womble Show
In the other corner there will be Womble videos playing at intervals throughout the day for people to enjoy.
Wrap up of the event
- Final unveiling of the Living Installation
- Reflections from Wimbledon Councillor David Simpson and MP for Wimbledon Stephen Hammond on their own part in the Big Womble and how they see Wombling in the future of London
- Drawing raffle tickets from the National Big Womble (www.bigwomble.org)
- All Wombles still there at the end can help to load the furniture into waiting vans for furniture reuse organisations to make reuse of.
